Diane’s Story

From shaping beautiful bouquets to now shaping lives through her volunteer work and philanthropy, Diane continues to remind us that healing comes in many forms—and sometimes, it begins with a single act of kindness.

Diane Morris has always found joy in serving others—first as a floral designer, then as a Dental Assistant, where she discovered her passion for patient care. Together with her husband, Mel, they were dedicated community volunteers. During Mel’s battle with cancer and a stroke, they found themselves inspired by friends Mary and Dick Heimann and their generous support of Asante.

In 2020, instead of a vacation to celebrate their 50th anniversary, Diane and Mel made a gift to the Heimann Cancer Center.

After Mel’s passing, Diane returned to her philanthropy and volunteering—this time with renewed purpose. Diane committed a portion of her estate to Asante Foundation through a planned gift, and she requested to serve at the Heimann Cancer Center, in honor of the cancer care her husband received at Asante.

“Cancer was part of our lives for 29 years—this was natural,” she shares. “People are thankful you will spend time with them. The interaction with patients is my reward.”

Today, Diane is one of more than 200 Asante volunteers who give their time and resources to support patients. Through her philanthropy and compassion, Diane reminds us that healing often begins with a single act of kindness.

“My late husband spent a lot of time at the hospital. I witnessed Asante expanding and growing and truly seeing the need in the community for these services to be available. Charity starts at home, and Asante was home.”

“There is incredible power in doing good. The golden rule should be more than a rule – it should be a purpose.”
