Mike’s Story

Mike was preparing for the birth of his child when his partner left him to return to a life of addiction.

Grateful for Solace

Dismayed, but determined to raise their baby, he did everything in his power to create a stable home, maintaining his own sobriety and working long hours to save money.

Baby Liam was born sharing his mother’s addiction to heroin. She left soon after he was born, but Liam remained in Asante’s Neonatal Intensive Care unit for 22 days, withdrawing from the drug’s effects.

Mike was there, caring for his baby with the encouragement and support of Asante NICU nurses. He read to Liam, held him skin-to-skin and learned infant massage.

As Liam’s first birthday approaches, Mike is grateful for the kindness and skill of the Asante NICU hospital team.
