Women’s and children’s health care
The challenge:
Mothers and children have unique health care needs that impact whole families. Safely welcoming a baby into the world is one of the most important moments in a family’s life, and children require specialized pediatric facilities and care designed for them that prioritizes emotional and psychological support. Babies, children and mothers in Asante’s largely rural nine-county region deserve exceptional care, close to home.
The solution:
Asante must grow its capacity and ability to keep families close to home and provide wrap-around care that supports babies, children and families as they navigate difficult medical challenges.
Where we are now:
In February 2024, Asante opened the doors to the new Olsrud Family Women’s and Children’s Hospital at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. This state-of-the-art facility offers:
- The first Newborn Intensive Care Unit on the west coast to offer licensed Couplet Care, providing private NICU rooms for postpartum mothers and their baby
- 16 private, single-patient pediatric rooms
- Child Life active room and Child Life quiet room where kids can be kids, even in the hospital
- The new Binette Family Birth Center with expanded labor and delivery rooms with laboring tubs, stunning views and ample room for family, and an OB emergency department that provides 24/7 specialist care
- A new pediatric oncology and infusion clinic with the only pediatric cancer care between Sacramento and Portland
- A Pediatric Assessment and Therapy Services clinic
- 24/7 care by a team pediatric hospitalists and specialized pediatric nurses
What’s next:
The building is just the beginning. The vision going forward is simple: to realize the full potential of this incredible new facility by growing the programs and supporting the people inside.
- Sustain Asante’s pediatric oncology care and ensure children in our region can continue to receive the very best cancer care close to home
- Grow a robust Child Life program that includes a team of Child Life Specialists who help emotionally and psychologically support children and families through the trauma of being in the hospital.
- Provide special programs, activity and art carts, game systems, “poke prizes” and comfort items for kids and families
- Invest in pediatric nursing education and training
- Directly support families by helping with rent and mortgage payments, grocery and travel expenses and other needs through patient Compassion Funds
