Third phase of expansion begins at Rogue Regional Medical Center
New cardiac catheterization lab and recovery areas underway

MEDFORD, OR (April 22, 2025) – The next phase of construction and expansion is underway at Rogue Regional Medical Center to increase access to cardiac services. This includes six new catheterization labs and 30 prep and recovery rooms where patients are cared for before and after procedures.

“As the region’s destination for cardiac care, we must meet and surpass the growing needs of patients in the nine counties we serve,” says Brandon Mencini, CEO of Rogue Regional Medical Center and Ashland Community Hospital.

During catheterization lab procedures, doctors insert thin, flexible tubes into a blood vessel—usually in a wrist or groin—and can place life-saving devices like stents, valves and pacemakers. Additionally, they can capture imaging, such as blocked arteries, without the need for open-heart surgery. In 2024, Rogue Regional performed more than 1,700 cath lab procedures, including ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) interventions and transaortic valve replacements (TAVR).

“In these situations, quick treatment is critical. Having more procedure rooms and recovery areas mean that we can increase access for patients,” says Kent Dauterman, Cardiologist, Southern Oregon Cardiology.

Donors and employees recently celebrated the groundbreaking for the cardiac expansion. This project is one of three main initiatives in the Asante Foundation’s campaign, AsanteForward2030. The other initiatives include expanding The Family House in Grants Pass as well as renovating the in-patient Medical Oncology unit at Rogue Regional.

“It’s because of this community that Asante can continue to expand its footprint and services, and we saw this come to fruition with the opening of the pavilion a year ago,” said Andrea Reeder, Senior Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer for Asante. “As we continue these efforts, through AsanteForward2030, we can ensure that more patients in our region have access to the highest level cardiac services.”
